Traditional Birth Attendants (TBA’s) are an integral part of our healthcare system. These are local members of our community who render both antenatal and childbirth services using traditional methods.

We need their services in our communities but we also value the safety of our women and children. While rendering an essential service to the community, it has been noted that some of the methods used by TBAs are crude and unprofessional and have been less than safe at times.

Our aim is to make them better and safer. We hope to make them even more relevant by providing free training on modern assessment methods, adequate observation and record keeping, as well as the use of more modern methods.

LHF plans to train 30 traditional birth attendants so that they are able to collaborate with registered midwives and other health professionals. We strongly believe that working in collaboration with other stakeholders in health will further enhance their contribution.
